For this month, I not going to bother with a general editorial, I'm just going to go over some thoughts up front and post a few new reviews. I have also updated my links page, with links to my favorite local sports teams, and news services. Now onto my rant:At least one of my readers has pointed out I should do a editorial about the Star Wars DVD fiasco, but I really see no point to it. Almost ever other website has beaten this subject to death, so I see no need to bitch about is DVD absence directly.
One issue I will point out: Shane Buettner of DVD file has finally weighed in on the Star Wars subject, like everyone else and took a pot shot at Lucas for trying to milk The Phantom Menace for more money by releasing the DVD behind the VHS release.
Please note that this is not directly aimed at you Shane, should you read this, but everyone who's made this gripe.
Duh! Where the f*** do you think all of his, or any other studio's, income comes from? Reality check folks: DVD exists solely for the re-promotion of films that have grown stagnant on VHS & LD. Not because there was a call to arms from the consumer for a better format. Every studio re-releases product multiple times to earn money! How many editions of 2001 and Dr. No were released on LD alone? Seven to eight? Let not even think about the VHS & DVD re-issues.
I would just like to see studios to get some of their more obscure content out or finished, see Babylon 5 and more than likely Batman Beyond. The hits will always show up. Cripes we're going to see the third edition of the Exorcist on DVD, sometime next year. Warner, think you've beaten that horse into the ground yet?
On some good notes, I'll give credit to Warner for finally redoing some of their DVD titles that sucked, such as: Caddyshack, Interview With The Vampire and Twister. Heck, they're even re-releasing the Lethal Weapon's in director cuts finally, in DTS*, no less.
* I'm totally stunned by this due to Warner and DTS' checkered past on home video.
To bad I won't buy these, since I can't finish Babylon 5. I guess there was too much griping from Best Buy and Joe Six Pack that Big Bully wasn't available on DVD. Woo hoo! The world is saved now.
Enough of my abbreviated rant. Enjoy the new reviews.
